“Excellent Hotel. Very friendly ”

I stayed at this hotel for over a week and found the staff to be very friendly and the service excellent. The concierge, travel advisors and cafe on the ground floor by the reception are also very friendly. Overall the experience was fantastic and the location could not be better. Several great restaurants nearby and shopping as well. Its right opposite the beach and 2 mins from the zoo.

“Great bargain near amenities”

The views from the rooms are wonderful! The location directly across the street from the zoo and Waikiki Beach make this hotel a hidden gem. Although it is not directly located in the heart of Waikiki, the important amenities are within walking distance.

The most important feature of this hotel is the value. There are many hotels in Waikiki, but they all charge extra fees pushing the price per night through the roof. Queen Kapiolani does not do that. If you want a great "home" base away from home, this is the place.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the suite. Lots of additional space, including a lanai.

The hotel is older, but the amenities are still there.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suite!

“My mother loves this place and has always stayed here each time she's in Honolulu!”

Rooms always fresh, and a laid back atmosphere! staff was always close by but not stifling. Always had a clean room to come back to each day after exploring everything during the day! We also planned our big events right from the concierge's kiosk!

"First trip to Hawaii was a great one!"

Everyone at the hotel was very nice and glad to help. We arrived at the front door and were greeted by some nice young men, We were given a room by very polite, and nice front desk. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. I went back to the lobby and desk before dinner and was helped with tours by Serena. There were also water dispenser in the lobby at no charge. The grounds are well-kept and the hotel fairly gleamed in the setting sun. There are plenty of seats and tables outside from which to enjoy the view and have something to eat or drink by the pool.

We had no clue that we needed to book cars, and activities in advance especially during the busy spring break season so Serena was very helpful and laid out our itinerary with details explanations. She told us the rental car places were out of cars but still managed to find us a rental car online on the big island as well as booking rooms for us. This was a heaven sent because we really had no idea what we should have done. Everything was explained and planned out for us so we didn't have to stress or worry about anything. This is a great service of the hotel.

The Bellman Kevin was especially a character and we enjoyed his ukulele playing of "somewhere over the rainbow" it's one of our favorite songs so hearing it here at this setting made it even more memorable.

Thanks again for making our first trip to hawaii a great one and we will be returning very soon! :-)

"Lovely Hotel"

Me and my husband recently stayed here for two weeks as we were celebrating our silver wedding anniversary. The first room we were given was tiny so we paid for an upgrade to a suite which was beautiful. The reception staff were lovely and very helpful, the restaurant was nice and the food was lovely. We decided to opt for a cheaper hotel here as we were not planning on spending too much time at the hotel and we were pleased we did. We would not hesitate to stay here again, hopefully very soon!

"Our hotel of choice in Waikiki !!"

Have stayed at the hotel 10 times over the past 15 years. Love the unobstructed view to Diamond Head. Be sure you pick the right category of room - either ocean or Diamond Head view. Staff are great - Jocelyn is always a pleasant sight when we arrive. Always willing to go the extra mile for guests. Mahalo Jocelyn !! Bell and valet staff also great !! Just hope the Canadian dollar goes up so we can return soon !

My wife and I enjoyed 2 nights at the hotel this past August, after our cruise, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The room was clean, the staff very friendly, and the location was ideal for us! We will not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and look forward to our return visit!

"Great Location"

An excellent hotel location perfectly. Plenty of food options within close distance. The beach is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Friendly staff who are willing to help you in any way. Great views from the pool area of diamond head - perfect in the evenings to watch the sun as it goes down.

"Nice Hotel and Helpful Staff"

Hawaii was my bucket list of things to do, so I decided on a last min trip on a whim. The front desk and concierge were very nice and helpful Serena gave us plenty of information and helped us out many times. Serena helped us with some activities and they were all excellent and she stayed late and past her closing on more than several occasions. This is a very nice and charming hotel and we would definitely stay here again.

"Nice Hotel, Great Location."

I've spent a lot of time in Honolulu, and have my favorite areas. I've always wanted to stay at the Queen Kapiolani, and I finally did. The rooms are nice, not too fancy, but clean and roomy enough. Staff are helpful and pleasant. The rooms have a lanai - balcony anywhere else - that allows you to sit out in the evening and watch the world. The location on Kapahulu is what makes this hotel a standout. Instead of hearing drunk tourists, you hear animals from the zoo at night. Instead of looking at another hotel, you look a diamond head - get a diamond head view room. When you walk out of the hotel, you see the greenery of the zoo. Plus, hey, there's the zoo, let's go there!. Nice outdoor bar/restaurant, in my opinion this is the hotel to beat.

"Honolulu Marathon Stay"

If you are running in the Honolulu Marathon, you could not find a more convenient location than this hotel. The bus to the start line picks you up downstairs and the finish line is about a quarter mile walk. Aside from it being convenient for the marathon, it is directly across from the zoo which was a nice way to spend the afternoon and the beach is just up the block. My room was on the 15th floor overlooking the city though from the balcony to the right you could see the ocean and mountains to the left. My mom was on the 5th floor with a pretty view of Diamond Head.

"Great location for Honolulu Marathon"

We stayed here for 2 nights while in town for the Honolulu Marathon, and chose the hotel primarily because of the location - the shuttle buses to the start line leave right across the street from the hotel, and this hotel is about as close as you can get to the finish line (based on previous experience, after doing 26.2 miles, the last thing I wanted was to have a long walk to the room). There were 4 of us in a city view room, with 2 double beds and a rollaway. The rollaway bed was already in the room when we arrived, which was nice. The lanai was nice to be able to sit on and take in some fresh air or have a snack outside. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was convenient to the Waikiki area, and there were numerous places to eat within a short distance.

“Excellent location, comfortable hotel”

We had a very comfortable four days at this hotel. Room was very clean, hotel has good amenities, the restaurant had excellent views and reasonable service. The location is perfect - at the edge of Waikiki facing a large park and the zoo, steps away from the beach and at the end of the principal shopping street with lots of boutiques and restaurants. You pay for the valet parking, but it is worth it. We would definitely stay here again.

"Great Location"

We booked this hotel because it was less expensive than other hotels we looked at. This was a great choice. It was across from the zoo and you could park in the zoo parking lot for $1.00/hour which was less expensive than using the hotel valet parking. We were there while the things were going on for Pearl Harbor Day and it was nice to sit on our balcony drinking wine while the activities were going on.

We will definitely book this hotel again. It is out of the crowds, there is an ABC store a couple of buildings down and also a Starbucks for those of you who like Starbucks. It was easy to get around the area from this base point.

The continental breakfast was not the greatest but there are many restaurants for breakfast around the area. If you choose the full breakfast, I'm sure it is good, but we only chose the continental breakfast.

Also, the staff was great. They were so friendly and helpful. When we arrived they asked us if we would like to be upgraded and we said yes. The room was a junior suite. I must tell you that we booked our Hawaii trip for 2014 but my mother-in-law was very ill and we did not want to be so far away if something happened. The hotel was great in not charging us a deposit when we cancelled 2 days before we were supposed to be there. That, in itself, shows what a great hotel it is.

Room Tip: I would definitely choose a room with the ocean/diamond head view.
